MoS2 and graphite are significantly different from other places is that the former’s friction coefficient in vacuum and air, even at temperatures up to 800 ℃, has not much difference. In the high vacuum conditions, MoS2 remains high lubricity which is very useful properties. Because in the absence of gas and steam to keep the lubrication state, MoS2 bonded to the metal can withstand extremely high pressures (up to 30kPa), but other lubricants already invalid. Since molybdenum disulfide has low friction coefficient, it still have excellent friction properties in a vacuum environment and strong radiation, so it has a wide range of machinery space applications.
