Several common filtering systems in aquarium products
The filtration system is a must for aquarium supplies. A
clear understanding of filtration equipment and equipment, how to
stabilize the filtration system, and make it play a real role is often a
major problem for confused beginners and aquarists.
Upper
filter (upper filter): The filter tank (box) on the upper part of the
aquarium. It is supplied by submerged or off-water pumps. It can pass
through the spigot, allowing the water to flow back into the aquarium. It is more convenient. However, this type of filter is not recommended for water tanks. At
the same time it is not recommended to use in breeding tanks or
juvenile fish tanks. This can cause frightened broodstock and small fish
to be inhaled and filtered.
Submerged
filter: The filter box (bucket) with filter cotton or deep cotton
directly installed at the inlet of the submerged pump is easy to
maintain and the filter equipment is cheap. This type of filtration system is often recommended by aquarists because it combines both filtration and aeration. But its actual effect is not so ideal. It took a long time for the magazine to have a poor cleaning effect.
External
filter (filter barrel): barrel structure, water pump is generally
placed in the lid, there are two pipes IN and OUT, the water is drawn
from the tank through the IN port pipeline, the physical and biochemical
filtration process in the filter barrel, Then
out of the OUT outlet pipe back to the fish tank, filter larger, but
inconvenient to clean it, it is recommended that you clean it once every
six months.
Bottom-type
filter: The bottom sand layer is used as a large-scale filter material
(seepage filter layer), and through the in-water pipeline network laid
under the sand layer, the pump is pumped through the submerged water
pump to achieve the purpose of physical filtration and biochemical
filtration (principle Similar
to submerged filters. Due to the large filter body, maintenance
intervals are longer, but maintenance is extremely inconvenient. The
effect is good, the disadvantage is that the installation is more
troublesome, there is grass cylinder can not be used, will be a serious
loss of base fertilizer.
Overflow
filter: It is generally used when bare fish are used to raise large
fish (such as Arowana, Luoliu fish, etc.). This kind of filtration
system can theoretically be maintenance-free, but it still needs manual
labor to clean the bottom of the fish tank. The
biggest drawback of this type of filtration system is that it is
unsightly and bulky, but its bio-filtering system works well!
Plug-in
filter: The appearance is generally box-shaped, usually with a pump,
generally used for small and medium-sized or small fish tanks, because
of its small volume, the water flow intensity is not high, will not
occupy the cylinder space. Maintenance is more convenient. Can
often be called this business waterfall filter system, the effect is
not ideal, but the pocket is beautiful, it is generally recommended to
use less than 10 liters of aquarium.
Pneumatic
filtration: The principle is the use of gas lift to make water flow
into the filter body (biochemical cotton, filter cotton) for biological
filtration process. The filtering effect is OK, but generally it needs to be used with physical filtration systems such as filters. It is often used in smaller, smaller fish tanks such as small breeding tanks, peacock, and short beaks.
Dripping
and seepage: Drip-flow filtration. This filtration system is mostly
used in overflow filters or upper-type dripping boxes. Its main feature
is that most of the filter material is exposed to the air, and the
filter media are mainly ceramic rings and biochemicals. The
ball and the filter cotton are filtered materials, and the biochemical
filtration process is performed. There is a flow of air in the filter
compartment, but there is no physical filtration function. Percolation filtration, filter material is usually filter cotton, biochemical cotton, sand. The
main characteristic is that the filter material is basically immersed
in the water body and does not directly contact with the air. It plays a
physical filtering process, but there is a large gap between the
biochemical cotton and the bottom sand, which can provide a good living
environment for the digestion of bacteria. There are also certain biochemical filtration capabilities. The
filtering effect of these two filtration systems is very good, but
there are also drawbacks. The drip filtration requires a larger space in
the upper part of the fish tank and it is not beautiful.
